The In2Care mosquito trap is awesome because it uses the mosquito’s behaviour to control the mosquitoes in the yard 24/7. It’s really effective but also safe as well. The two active ingredients are Pyriproxyfen and Beauveria bassiana which they call bioactives.
Pyriproxyfen is very low in mammal toxicity, and the bioactives inside are only toxic to insects and are not toxic to birds, mammals. (But be sure to always follow product labels and directions.)
PPE for this product includes gloves and mask but be sure to always follow product labels and directions.
The In2Care unit is made up of:
- a bucket,
- a floater,
- the lid, and
- the cap.
The cap has 12 numbers on it,
so every time you service the trap, which is once a month, you just rotate it for the month that you service it in so the person that comes out the next time knows that it’s been serviced.
Start by filling it up with water to the top line. Take your In2Mix and shake it. Open it and remove the gauze from the package so you’re left with the two yeast tablets and biocide powder that you pour into the water-filled container. The yeast tablets create an environment of organic material that attracts mosquitoes to come and lay eggs inside the trap.
Once that’s done, you’re gonna take your gauze and floater and start on one side wrapping the gauze around the floater. So basically, the mosquito lands on the gauze and lays its eggs in the water. When it lands on the gauze, there’s a static coating on the gauze which makes the mosquito get covered in bioactives. The mosquito then flies out to other breeding sites to lay its eggs and contaminates those breeding sites with Pyriproxyfen – controlling those breeding sites as well. You also have the Beauveria bassiana on the mosquito which kills the adult mosquito about three to four days after exposure.
Once you have the gauze strip around and, on both sides, just move it downwards until it’s all the way down to the bottom.
You’ll then want to gently lay the floater down on the water and make sure you don’t drop it. Because if it gets wet, it won’t be as effective. Then you take the lid and make sure it’s on the appropriate month. Screw the lid on top and that’s it.
Typical breeding sites that might be hard to control are gonna be like tyres in the backyard, tarps that may be carrying water, small little pools, gutters,
anything that can have a small amount of water.
Because Aedes mosquitoes only need a teaspoon of water to breed.
Optimal placement of the In2Care trap is gonna be in the shade, near plants because mosquitoes rest in vegetation.
So, if you can find a good place in the front or back that has good shade and near vegetation, that’s great. But even if there’s no vegetation, you can still place it in the shade.
The reason for that is because you want less evaporation inside the bucket where the water is.
